How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 11 without uploading

For an occasional image, use a local converter that reads your source format. For recurring batches, check a representative file before processing the whole folder.

Convert one image locally

  1. Open the source image in a Windows-compatible converter that supports its format.
  2. Choose the converter’s export or save-as command.
  3. Choose JPEG from Format and select a quality setting.
  4. Save with a new name in a separate folder.

Confirm that the selected converter supports the source image and the JPEG output format.

Check more than the file extension

Open the JPEG and compare it with the original. Check orientation, pixel dimensions, colour and visible detail at full size. JPEG is lossy and does not preserve transparency. Keep the HEIC source if you may edit or export it again.

Check location and other metadata before sharing. A successful conversion does not prove that private metadata was removed or that every source feature survived. File size depends on content and quality settings; there is no guaranteed reduction.

When a batch converter helps

Recast brings local conversion, batch queues and a Shortcuts action into one Windows 11 workspace. Read its format and tool reference first: image routes depend on your PC's readers and writers, while some other formats require extra tools.

Before a large batch, keep the originals, select a separate output folder and convert one typical image. Verify it in the app or service that will receive the files. Review failed items instead of deleting the input folder.

An occasional export or a repeatable workflow?

Use an individual export for an occasional image or a batch workflow for repeated conversions. Check the converter’s supported formats and Windows requirements.
